Life and Works of Puccini Sarah Lenton Thursday 21 February 2019

LIFE AND WORKS OF PUCCINI – Thursday 21st February 2019

Sarah Lenton

Puccini only completed five or possibly six major operas. However, those operas – which include Madam Butterfly, Tosca and La Bohème – are the ones that keep most opera houses financially afloat. Puccini’s professional career was successful, tempestuous and ultimately thwarted. Sarah will discuss why – given he was so popular – there are so few completed major works and how his career exemplifies the fracturing of European culture in the 20th century.

Due to professional commitments, please note that this lecture will consist of two 75 minute sessions with a 30 minute break when light refreshments will be served. There will be no lunch on this occasion.
